SALVADOR FOOD TOUR - Over four flavour-packed hours you’ll explore the cobbled streets of Pelourinho and the lively markets of Comércio with a local tastemaker guide, tasting the Afro-Brazilian dishes that shape Salvador’s food scene. This isn’t about polished restaurants, it’s about the street vendors and neighbourhood eateries beloved by locals.
Your journey begins in Pelourinho, the historic heart of Salvador, with simple but beloved Brazilian staples like soft pãozinho bread and refreshing coconut-lime juice. Then the tour moves beyond the colourful colonial streets as you travel down toward Comércio, the city’s old port district.
In Comércio you’ll explore lively local markets and street stalls while learning how Salvador’s food culture was shaped by centuries of trade and the deep African roots that define Bahian cuisine. Many of the ingredients and techniques that arrived through the port centuries ago remain central to the dishes locals eat today. You’ll stop for one of the city’s most iconic street foods, acarajé, golden bean fritters stuffed with vatapà and shrimps, slow-cooked hearty classics like pork feijoada, and moqueca, a fragrant seafood stew of fish and shrimp simmered in coconut and spices, paired with toasted cassava flour and silky pirão.
Along the way you’ll try coconut and cassava fritters dusted with cinnamon, crunchy cashews caramelised with açaÃ, and other small bites that locals snack on throughout the day. The experience signs off the Salvador way, with a small glass of cravinho, clove-infused cachaça that’s sweet, warming and unmistakably Bahian.
The tour is mostly on foot, taking you through Pelourinho’s cobbled streets and the busy market areas of Comércio, though you’ll also hop on local buses and taxis as your guide leads you between neighbourhood spots before returning to Pelourinho to continue tasting the dishes that define Salvador’s food culture.
