Ever woken up one morning and thought about jacking it all in to go native in the forest? Ever dreamt of a simpler way of life away from that commute and the daily grind? Ever wondered if other people in the world might just be more satisfied than you with less? Well wonder no more. We can't offer permanent solutions to life's ills, but we can whisk you away to spend some real time in the real world with really cool folk.
The Karen hill people have been living the way they do since well before most of the world was discovered. Although they've adopted some modern conveniences, you won't catch them posting selfies on Facebook or uploading photos of their dinner to Instagram, and they seem happier for it. For these people life is about the changing of the seasons, their animals and crops, hunting and gathering in the forest, their relationships and time spent in good company. So, join them and they'll show you how to survive and thrive in the landscape of Northern Thailand. Learn where to forage for food, how to build and set traps to find a source of protein and how to cook delicious meals you won't find in any restaurant in the known universe.
This trip isn't for the squeamish, it's not for the fussy and there are no guarantees (except that you'll have a jolly good time and you'll make it out alive, we promise). When all's said and done, we'll take you to a hot spring on the journey home so you can have a good long soak and think about which life you'd prefer to return to. Can't say fairer than that now, can we?
"Wanpen is a bridge between Westerns and the rural people of Northern Thailand. With a deep afinity for those who still live a traditional way, she understands them and can help to show you what life is like for those still predominantly unaffected by the modern world."

This tour is designed for adventurous hunter-gatherers with an interest in learning to find and cook the local way. The overnight adventure is split into several activities, the first day dedicated to foraging and learning how to make traps with cooking later in the evening. Sleep privately in a comfortable village hut and share breakfast with the villagers in the morning. The second day involves collecting your traps, more cooking and lunch before returning to Chiang Mai via a hot spring to freshen up. The village itself is beautiful and the people warm and welcoming. They don't speak much English, but your guide does and she'll be with you every step of the way.
